GUIDE TO USING DPI’S PRINTER PROFILES
DPI Photography Center strives to provide its clients with the utmost control over the color of their prints by utilizing a professional Color Management system. In line with this, we have made available a set of custom made color profiles for each of our printers and paper stock. Each of our printer profiles was made in the U.S. by Imaging Revue, an International Color Management Forum of which DPI Photography Center is a member.
The use of Printer Profiles, also known as ICC Profiles, is essential for anyone concerned with color predictability and accuracy. Together with a properly calibrated and profiled monitor , you can use the printer profiles to achieve a near what-you-see-is-what-you-get workflow with regards to your prints.
DPI has one profile for each type of paper that it uses:

USING PROFILES FOR YOUR PRINTS ON DPI'S LED PRINTER
DPI's Kodak Professional RP 50 LED Printer is Kodak's top-of-the-line printer, capable of producing high quality prints up to 20”x32” inches. The operating system of this printer allows for full Color Management capabilities integrated into its workflow enabling a high level of faithful color reproduction from file to print. This is achieved through converting all images from its native color space to the Printer Profile
Using Adobe Photoshop, you can soft proof (or preview) how your images will look when printed on a particular paper type on our LED printer by means of our printer profiles.
Open an image in Adobe Photoshop.
Under the View in the toolbar, select Proof Setup, then Custom. A dialogue box will appear.
Select the drop down menu next to Profile.
Select the profile of DPI's LED Printer with the corresponding paper type you will be using (example DPI-LED-SILK-BRI).
Leave Preserve Color Numbers unchecked.
For Intent, select Perceptual .
Check Use Black Point Compensation.
Leave the other boxes unchecked.
The set-up above shows you how the image will look once it is converted into the printer profile and printed.
If you want to see the white of your monitor match the white of the paper, check the Paper White option. This may appear to make the image lose contrast. You will witness a drastic dulling appearance because you will see the shift from the brilliance of the monitor to paper white. To overcome this, look away from the monitor when you check this. If you don't watch the shift, it will not appear as dull.
Saving the Profile Setting
If you think that you will be softproofing your images often in the future, it would be best to save the setting so that the profile is readily accessible through the toolbar, instead of your having to pass through the dialogue box each time.
To do this, click Save on the dialogue box, and assign a name to the profile. Below is a list of suggested names you can assign:
PRINTER |
PAPER TYPE |
ASSIGNED NAME |
KODAK Professional RP 50 LED |
Kodak Professional -Brilliance SILK |
DPI LED Silk |
Kodak Professional -Brilliance GLOSSY |
DPI LED Glossy |
Kodak Professional – Endura METALLIC |
DPI LED Metallic |
The next time you want to soft proof the image, all you will have to do is click on View in the toolbar, select Proof Setup, and select the saved set-up from the bottom of the drop down list.
